School Dress Code

Montague School does not have a school uniform in order to best meet the diverse needs of our student community, including students with disabilities. Our dress code is designed to be inclusive, affordable, and respectful of individual expression while promoting a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment.

Students are expected to wear clothing that is neat, respectful, and appropriate for the learning environment. For safety reasons, footwear must fully cover toes. To support health and well-being, we encourage all students to follow SunSmart practices by wearing sun-protective clothing and hats, especially when UV levels reach 3 or above (generally from mid-August to the end of April). During wet or cold weather, students should wear suitable protective clothing to stay warm and dry.

Our approach aligns with the Department of Education Victoria’s guidelines, which emphasize the importance of affordable, non-discriminatory, and flexible dress codes. These guidelines require schools to accommodate the needs of all students, including those with disabilities, and ensure that dress policies do not create barriers to participation or learning.

This flexible dress code supports student safety, health, and individuality while fostering an inclusive school culture that values diversity and personal expression.

For more information on dress code policies and student rights, please refer to the Department of Education Victoria’s guidelines on student dress codes and exemptions.

Montague School is committed to providing an equitable and welcoming environment where every student can thrive.
