Inclusive Education

At Montague School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every individual, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Our commitment to inclusion is reflected in our school’s culture, policies, and practices. We strive to create a welcoming and accessible space where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. Through personalised support, individualised learning plans, and a variety of educational and vocational opportunities, we ensure that each student receives the tailored assistance they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

We recognise and celebrate the unique strengths and talents of every student, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance within our school community. We embrace diversity in all its forms and actively promote understanding, empathy, and inclusion among students, staff, and families.

Key Components

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

This framework provides a tiered approach to intervention and support, with targeted interventions at each level to address the diverse needs of our students. We systematically screen, assess, and monitor student progress to identify areas of need and provide appropriate timely supports and interventions to ensure academic success.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

These principles guide our instructional practices to ensure that lessons are accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all students. By providing multiple means of representation, engagement, and expression, we accommodate diverse learning styles, preferences, and abilities, making learning more inclusive for everyone.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

We develop individualised education plans (IEPs) for every students that outlines specific goals, accommodations, and supports tailored to their unique needs. IEPs are collaboratively developed with input from educators, parents/guardians, support staff, and the student, and are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect progress and changing needs.

Wellbeing Initiatives

In addition to academic support, we prioritise the social-emotional and physical wellbeing of our students. We provide access to resources, programs, and services that promote mental health, resilience, and positive relationships. Wellbeing initiatives include counselling services, social-emotional learning programs, mindfulness practices, and opportunities for physical activity and recreation.

Collaborative Approach

We recognise that meeting the diverse needs of all students requires a collaborative and team-based approach. Educators, support staff, administrators, families, and community partners work together to develop, implement, and monitor interventions and supports that promote student success and wellbeing. Regular communication, data sharing, and collaboration ensure that students receive coordinated and holistic support across all areas of their education.

Continuous Improvement

We are committed to continuous improvement and reflection to ensure that our practices and initiatives are effective and equitable. We regularly review data, gather feedback from stakeholders, and evaluate the impact of our interventions to identify areas for improvement and make adjustments as needed. By continuously refining our practices, we strive to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school community where all students can thrive.
