Several years ago, we adopted the Calmer Classrooms approach to learning, engagement and connectedness. Both research and wisdom show us that regardless of the adversity students face, if they can develop and maintain a positive attachment to school, and gain an enthusiasm for learning, they will do so much better in their lives.

Our staff forge positive attachments with students through two key mechanisms:

  • understanding traumatised children, and
  • developing relationship-based skills to help them.

Montague School staff are all trauma informed practitioners. They understand the effects of trauma on students education and adjust teaching practices to help them. Our staff participate actively and collaboratively in the systems designed to support students to improve their educational outcomes, and assist in their healing and recovery.
